La serie animata X-Men ’97 include diverse scene ispirate a Man of SteeI (2013), il primo film del DC Extended Universe diretto da Zack Snyder, in quanto lo showrunner Beau DeMayo è un grande fan del film e del lavoro di Snyder.
Su Twitter, DeMayo è tornato a lodare Man of Steel ribadendo che diverse scene lo hanno ispirato per X-Men ’97 (come il volo di Tempesta, simile a quello di Superman), rispondendo anche alle dichiarazioni di Martin Scorsese, secondo il quale i film di supereroi “non sono cinema”.
Commentando il primo volo di Superman, lo showrunner ha infatti dichiarato:
Mi dispiace, Scorsese, ma questo è cinema. Tutto, dalle immagini alla musica, passando per la coreografia di volo, Clark che passa dal camminare con questo pesante fardello fino a librarsi in volo sorridendo, trasmette la speranza e il potere di un outsider che scopre di essere troppo grande per la casa che lo ha adottato.
